There be randomly generated caves
I happened to post an image on TwitPic a few days ago showing progress on a random cave generator I am working on. My task was then to take that 2D layout and start moving to 3D. Today I went at it and I’m quite happy with the results. There is still room for some optimizations (for instance, there are large portions of the grid that would never be visible in an actual game and therefore could be cut), but at this point I don’t think I’m going to waste my time with that.
So without any much more introduction, here are some screens, both shaded with a crappy placeholder texture I made and in wireframe mode:
No more details on the game just yet, but I’ll keep posting updates both here and on TwitPic so keep an eye out.
